COP16 Forum – Embassy of Colombia in Malaysia

On 24 September 2024, the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) took part in the COP16 Forum organised by the Embassy of Colombia in Malaysia at the Asia School of Business. Themed “Peace with Nature”, the event highlighted collaborative efforts in safeguarding biodiversity amidst increasing anthropogenic pressures on our Malaysian landscapes.

MNS presented an overview of Malaysia’s mega biodiversity, emphasising the country’s rich natural heritage and the urgent need for conservation. This was followed by a compelling narrative by Ian Teh, National Geographic Society grantee, spotlighting the effects of urbanisation in Klang Valley and the importance of preserving its last green lungs.

MNS also shared the Rantaian Urban Green Spaces (RUGS) project as a case study, showcasing how nature-based solutions and collaborative partnerships can drive effective urban biodiversity conservation. Other contributors to the forum included WWF Malaysia, PACOS Trust, Building Indigenous Initiatives, and other CSO leaders advancing indigenous and ecological initiatives.
